Hey Everybody!
Im a college student that is on his way to a EMT-I level. But, this post is actually for a paper im writing. Its about the heated debate on Private vs. Public. I know some from the fire chef that teaches our class but wanted to get some outside opinions too! Help me out? Please and Thanks! Cody Albany, Oregon |

My question is actually just some opinions on combining private and public EMS services. I am taking an ems course and am writing a paper for a class, like I said, and I think the idea of combining does make sense and its a somewhat reasonable idea. But im still a newbie. So anything would be helpful!

You might want to narrow the scope of either your question or your paper. Like alot of things in EMS there are many diverse ways of combining public and private services. They are all different starting with the way calls are received and dispatched. Just assuming you're talking about 911 systems. There are transport/non-transport first in public responders combined with private transport units. Tiered systems, etc., etc. Don't know what area you're from. Posting that might help. Good luck!

With limited information; I don't see a problem with it. If your company/organization likes both aspects of EMS then sure, why not combine them. The only issue I could see would be who does 9-1-1 jobs and who does transport, and how would that work out between the crews.
Personally, I'm a 9-1-1 guy myself but there still is a great need for transport EMT's as well. I hope this helps. :-)
